Muhaarar to Shadwell in 2016

This season’s sprinting sensation Muhaarar (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) will retire to stud for the 2016 season at Shadwell’s England based The Nunnery Stud. The son of champion sprinter and highly influential sire Oasis Dream {GB} (Green Desert) capped a fantastic season when winning the G1 Qipco British Champions Sprint S. on Saturday, his fourth successive Group 1 sprint victory and arguably his most impressive lifetime performance. Trained by Charlie Hills, Muhaarar showed his class early on, winning the G2 Gimcrack S. at York as a juvenile and ended his 2-year-old season with a third place in the G1 Middle Park S. He struck at the top level for the first time when galloping home clear in the inaugural running of Royal Ascot’s G1 Commonwealth Cup and supplemented that with further Group 1 wins in the Darley July Cup at Newmaket and the Prix Maurice De Gheest at Deauville before Saturday’s demolition job at Ascot.

Richard Lancaster, Shadwell’s Stud Director commented on Sunday, “We are delighted to have the privilege of standing Muhaarar at the Nunnery Stud. He is a beautifully bred colt and a real Champion. We have waited a long time to stand a horse of this quality in our own right at Shadwell and we are very grateful to His Highness Sheikh Hamdan for entrusting him to us. It is a huge boost to everyone at Shadwell and marks a new chapter in our history.”

Charlie Hills is naturally one of Muhaarar’s biggest fans and commented, “He has the will to win, the most beautiful temperament and great looks as well. He has been a great privilege to train and I think we probably saw him at his best on Saturday.”

Muhaarar’s fee will be announced at a later date and expanding on stud plans Lancaster added, “Due to his quality and impressive race-record, and in line with Shadwell policy, Muhaarar will cover a limited book of mares which will be selected by the team at Shadwell. Preference will be given to group winners and producers and breeders will have until December 2 2015 to apply for a nomination.”
