Wedding Toast Retired

Godolphin Racing’s “TDN Rising Star” Wedding Toast (Street Sense) has been retired from racing and will join the Darley broodmare band.

Winner of the 2013 GIII Comely S., the bay really came into her own this season at Belmont starting with a decisive victory in the GII Ruffian S. May 9. She ran away with the GI Ogden Phipps S. June 6, beating a field that included champion Untapable (Tapit), and was equally impressive in taking the GI Beldame S. Sept. 26 after almost four months on the bench.

Wedding Toast finished a disappointing 11th as the favorite in Friday’s GI Breeders’ Cup Distaff.

“I told [jockey Jose Lezcano] to get into a good rhythm,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said of the Distaff run. “I told him, ‘whether you break on the lead or are laying fourth, get into a good rhythm. You’re the best.’ It was just the opposite. She hopped at the start and ends up wide. A horse comes outside of her and she gets keen.”

The conditioner added, “She owes us nothing. She’s a multiple Grade I winner heading home to be retired.”

Wedding Toast retires with a record of 13-8-2-1 and earnings of $1,419,956.
