Take Charge Milady Spoils Champion Immersive's Return

Take Charge Milady (f, 3, Take Charge Indy–Price too High, by Scat Daddy) defeated returning champion Immersive (Nyquist) by a neck in a thrilling renewal of Saturday's Monomoy Girl S. at Churchill Downs.

The latter, sidelined due to bone bruising and off as the 2-5 favorite in a scratched-down field of four, was making her first start since capping a four-for-four season in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar.

Take Charge Milady, winner of the Martha Washington S., second in the GI Ashland S. and 12th in the GI Kentucky Oaks, raced within striking distance in an outside third as Immersive tracked in an inside second through an opening quarter in :23.32. Take Charge Milady moved into second as Immersive raced in tight quarters on the far turn. Take Charge Milady revved up three wide as Immersive bounced off the tiring pacesetter Anna's Promise (Promises Fulfilled) at the top of the stretch. Take Charge Milady and Immersive put on a show from there with the former battling by after a long drive to deliver at odds of 4-1.

“In a four-horse field you have to really zero in on where everyone else will be placed in the race,” said winning jockey Brian Hernandez, Jr. “We knew Immersive didn't' have much early speed and had a good idea that (Anna's Promise) would go to the front. Knowing our filly, I knew if I could get her in a good spot, and make it a little uncomfortable for Immersive as long as possible, she was going to be a little better since Immersive is coming off a layoff. That's really what it boiled down to today.”

Of the beaten favorite, her jockey Manny Franco said: “She was fine on the inside but when I got through she was just steady. She didn't show a big punch to go through there.”

Once a $180,000 purchase at the KEESEP sale in 2015, Price too High is the mother of unraced Sticker Shocked (Audible). She was bred to Bee Jersey in 2025 after being unsuccessfully covered by Liam's Map the previous season.
