Six years on from the St Leger victory of Juddmonte's Logician, his half-brother Skimmer could be on the same path after taking his record to two-from-two at Kempton on Wednesday. After registering a smooth 1 1/2-length win in the 11-furlong novice, the son of Kingman opened up options but is possibly ground-dependent according to trainer Harry Charlton.
“We entered him in the Voltigeur the other day and we'll see what Juddmonte want to do,” he said of the 6-5 favourite, who was carrying a penalty for his debut success at Leicester but able to record a smooth 1 1/2-length success from Sea Of Kings (Sea The Stars). “We came here slightly unfit in order to get him to York, but I don't want to run him on rattling quick ground. He's deeply horizontal, so laid-back, but picked up nicely and he was heavier today than at Leicester. He's 550 kilos and when they are built like that you have to look after them, but he couldn't have done a whole lot more there. It's not been a year for this type of horse as it hasn't rained all summer.”
He looks smart.

The winner is the 11th foal out of the Listed-placed dam, who alongside Logician also produced four other Stakes performers headed by the triple Grade III winner and GI E. P. Taylor Stakes runner-up Suffused (Champs Elysees) and last year's G3 Gordon Richards Stakes scorer Okeechobee (Time Test). She is also the second dam of the GI Diana Stakes heroine Whitebeam (Caravaggio), the G3 Autumn Stakes-placed Nightwalker by Logician's sire and Night Of Thunder's upwardly-mobile G3 Prix de Royaumont winner Sunly and G2 Lancashire Oaks winner Estrange. Scuffle is a half to the established sires Cityscape and Bated Breath and to the dam of the classy sprinter Equilateral (Equiano), while other members of this illustrious dynasty include Kingman's G3 Dick Poole Fillies Stakes scorer Tabiti and the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Unquestionable (Wootton Bassett). Her 2-year-old colt Najidi Storm is also by Frankel, while she also has a foal full-sister to the winner.
