Gimme Da Lute Euthanized

Karl Watson, Mike Pegram and Paul Weitman homebred Gimme Da Lute (Midnight Lute–Casino Gold, by Proud Citizen) was euthanized after breaking his leg following surgery for a hind leg fracture.

The original fracture occured during a four-furlong bullet in :46 2/5 at Santa Anita Nov. 3. the surgery to repair the fracture was successful, but the colt severely broke his leg during recovery.

Never out of the money, the speedy sophomore was on a four-race hot streak that included wins in the GIII Affirmed S. June 7, the GII Los Alamitos Derby July 4, the Real Good Deal S. Aug. 2 and most recently the El Cajon S. Aug. 29. The California-bred colt had a record of 9-6-1-2 and earnings of $627,560.
