There are various loyalty programs available when it comes to choosing a stallion these days and the latest offering comes from Overbury Stud and the recently retired Mustajeeb (GB) (Nayef–Rifqah, by Elusive Quality). The former Dermot Weld-trained Royal Ascot winner will be available in 2016 at special terms which reward breeders for consistent support with a lifetime breeding right. Known as 'Happy Breeder', an up-front payment of £10,000 qualifies participants to send two mares to Mustajeeb next spring, earning them a free nomination in both 2017 and 2018. Breeders who subsequently use all four nominations will be given a lifetime breeding right to use or sell, as they wish. Simon Sweeting, Overbury Stud's manager, said, “Mustajeeb's new 'Happy Breeder' terms are a great way to give his biggest supporters a lasting stake in his future and make them genuine partners in his success– it calls on breeders to share the commitment of making him, but then grants them potentially lucrative long-term rewards.”
Sweeting continued, ” Versions of this sort of arrangement– from Spendthrift's Share The Upside to the Darley Club–are proving extremely popular, they can benefit both the stallion and the breeder, so long as the stallion is of sufficient quality to warrant such committed support. Mustajeeb is exactly the right sort of horse to appeal, precocious, fast, highly-rated, with a stallion's pedigree.”
Owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum, Mustajeeb showed class to win the G3 Jersey S. over seven furlongs as a 3-year-old, then showed top-class speed and versatility to win the G2 Greenlands S. at The Curragh as a 4-year-old, beating Group 1 sprinters Maarek (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) and Sole Power (GB) (Kyllachy {GB}) in the process. Single nominations to Mustajeeb will also be available at £5,000 Oct. 1, Special Live Foal.
