Ramatuelle’s Half Brother Mr Lope Cen Gets It Done On Debut

Chantilly’s two newcomers’ events on Monday featured some likely types and in the colts’ version it was Yeguada Centurion’s well-connected Mr Lope Cen who had the bragging rights.

Fighting off another son of Lope De Vega in Vegamix, the 27-10 favourite who is entered in the Poule d’Essai des Poulains and Prix du Jockey Club got his career off to the perfect start for the Henri Devin stable.

“He won very well considering how timid early with horses on his outside,” Devin said. “He will have learned a lot there and is a nice colt–one of my best three-year-olds.”

Aurelien Lemaitre had to be patient on the fence on the half-brother to Justify’s Prix de la Foret heroine Ramatuelle, but when the time came his mount was alive to the opportunity and able to lead home the sprint and score by 1 1/4 lengths from the Wertheimer-Fabre project as the pair pulled clear.

The winner is the third foal out of the G2 Goldene Peitsche and G3 Summer Stakes-winning dam, with the first being the aforementioned Ramatuelle who also captured the G2 Prix Robert Papin and was placed in the 1,000 Guineas, Coronation Stakes and Prix Morny. The second was the colt Tito Mo Cen (Uncle Mo), a TDN Rising Star due to his impressive winning debut at this track last February who went on to land the Listed Prix Maurice Caillault.

A snip at just $300,000 when purchased by this operation at the 2019 Keeneland November Sale, Raven’s Lady hails from the family of Machiavellian’s Prix d’Ispahan hero Best Of The Bests and the Melbourne Cup runner-up Prince Of Arran (Shirocco).
