Drop Dead Gorgeous A New TDN Rising Star For Ballydoyle

If history is anything to go by, Drop Dead Gorgeous (Dubawi) is going places having won a key Naas maiden for Ballydoyle on Sunday. She becomes Dubawi’s 48th TDN Rising Star, Presented by Hagyard.

Debuting in the mile contest which the stable’s subsequent Classic heroines Empress Josephine and Tuesday won in 2021 and 2022, the even-money favourite was notably smooth for Ryan Moore and after taking command 1 1/2 furlongs out eased to a comfortable success.

“We’re delighted with her, she’s a lovely big filly. She’s still a baby and learned plenty today,” Aidan O’Brien said of the daughter of Giant’s Causeway’s Cherry Hinton-winning full-sister You’resothrilling (Storm Cat) from the family of Galileo’s Classic winners Gleneagles, Marvellous and Joan Of Arc. “She was very green when she got there and will stay further. She’s a quality big mare.”

The winner, who was completing a treble on the card for the stable, had 1 1/4 lengths to spare over Moyglare’s newcomer Fleur De Provence (Gleneagles), a daughter of the Ribblesdale scorer Princess Highway. There was another half a length back to fellow Ballydoyle runner White Sand Beach (Dubawi), a daughter of the triple Group 1 winner Alice Springs (Galileo) with experience under her belt.

Pedigree Notes
It goes without saying that Drop Dead Gorgeous has a genetic leg-up, being the ninth foal out of the remarkable You’resothrilling and only the first not to be by Galileo. She is also the first since the 2019 foal Toy, who despite finishing runner-up in the Irish Oaks is actually the least-accomplished of her siblings.

Every predecessor made a mark at the highest level, with the aforementioned trio of Classic winners joined by the Moyglare and Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere heroine Happily. You’resothrilling, the best of Giant’s Causeway’s siblings, is a half-sister to Galileo’s dual Group-placed Butterflies, whose daughter Yet (War Front) is responsible for this year’s hype horse Albert Einstein (Wootton Bassett).

You’resothrilling’s full-sister Pearling produced Galileo’s Irish Champion Stakes hero Decorated Knight, while her half-sister Fabulous (Galileo) is the dam of last year’s St Leger and Goodwood Cup hero Scandinavia (Justify) and the Prix Saint-Alary winner Above The Curve (American Pharoah). Her yearling colt is by Frankel.
