Frankie Dettori was awarded the 2015 Longines World's Best Jockey award in a ceremony at the gala dinner of the Longines Hong Kong International Races at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre Friday.
The award is decided by points earned in the 100 highest-rated Grade/Group 1 races in the world in the year, with 12 points given for a win, six for a second and four for a third. Dettori won with 100 points with Ryan Moore and Victor Espinoza tying for second with 90 points. Maxime Guyon was third with 88 points.
Four of Dettori's five qualifying Group 1 wins this year came on Cartier Horse of the Year Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}), including the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and G1 Investec Derby. The other was the G1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot aboard Undrafted (Purim). Other Group 1 wins by Dettori this year include the Prix de Diane Longines, the Darley Prix Morny and the Juddmonte Middle Park S.
“Frankie Dettori is one of the stars of the racing world,” said IFHA Chairman Louis Romanet, who presented the award with Longines Vice President and Head of International Marketing Juan-Carlos Capelli. “His ride in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Golden Horn was an absolute masterpiece. Furthermore, his consistency during the course of the year was remarkable. He is a deserving winner.”
