Frankie Dettori Awarded 'Best Jockey' Honor

Frankie Dettori was awarded the 2015 Longines World's Best Jockey award in a ceremony at the gala dinner of the Longines Hong Kong International Races at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre Friday.

The award is decided by points earned in the 100 highest-rated Grade/Group 1 races in the world in the year, with 12 points given for a win, six for a second and four for a third. Dettori won with 100 points with Ryan Moore and Victor Espinoza tying for second with 90 points. Maxime Guyon was third with 88 points.

Four of Dettori's five qualifying Group 1 wins this year came on Cartier Horse of the Year Golden Horn (GB) (Cape Cross {Ire}), including the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe and G1 Investec Derby. The other was the G1 Diamond Jubilee at Royal Ascot aboard Undrafted (Purim). Other Group 1 wins by Dettori this year include the Prix de Diane Longines, the Darley Prix Morny and the Juddmonte Middle Park S.

β€œFrankie Dettori is one of the stars of the racing world,” said IFHA Chairman Louis Romanet, who presented the award with Longines Vice President and Head of International Marketing Juan-Carlos Capelli. β€œHis ride in the Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe on Golden Horn was an absolute masterpiece. Furthermore, his consistency during the course of the year was remarkable. He is a deserving winner.”
