Sensor and stride technologies being used in horse racing were discussed during the second installment in the 2026 OwnerView webinar series held Apr. 7.
Gary Falter, project manager for OwnerView, moderated the panel with guests Fabienne De Geer, representing Sleip; Ben Bernhard, representing Stable Analytics; and Dr. David Lambert, representing StrideSAFE.
The webinar began with general questions about each technology.
De Geer explained that Sleip is based on gait analysis, and that Sleip has different types of users beyond racing.
“Veteriniarians are the biggest users, but we have two versions you could say,” she said. “So, we do offer it to other equine professionals, trainers, physiotherapists, farriers, and so on. But in the beginning, we were very focused and we're still very focused on the veterinarians. But we think it can benefit a lot of other professions as well.”
Bernhard was excited to share that the OwnerView webinar was the first time the Stable Analytics product Equigraph was being shared with the public.
“Pin Oak has been using the sensors for about a year and a half now,” he said. “We've had a couple other volunteers as well, but outside of that, you're about to see some things that no one else has seen before. So, if you're on the webinar, nice, you'll get to see this before anyone else, and by the end of this year, we'll be releasing this as a general product for anyone to be able to purchase and use.”
Dr. Lambert shared that StrideSAFE technology was being used worldwide to gather data.
“It's come from all these different places, but it's all honing in to the concern for the overall wellness and welfare of Thoroughbred horses and how they can most effectively be managed by their trainer, their veterinarian, and their owners. That's where it's all going, in my view,” he said.
