After opening his career with a pair of runner-up efforts, Juddmonte homebred Deep Flame (Into Mischief) romped home to his maiden victory at Churchill Downs Sunday. The 2-5 favorite attended the pace of longshot Armet (Practical Joke) through an opening quarter in :22.55. He took the lead out of the turn and was quickly clear as the half went up in :45.08. The result was never in doubt from there as he skipped clear to score by seven lengths. Embry Show (Modernist) chased him home in second.
Second on debut at Fair Grounds Feb. 14, Deep Flame set the pace before settling for second–beaten just a half-length, while earning a 92 Beyer going 6 1/2 furlongs at Keeneland Apr. 4.
His dam, Barbadia has a yearling filly by Kingman (GB) and produced a colt by Constitution this year. The mare is a half-sister to Group 1 winner Etoile Montante (Miswaki). Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by FanDuel TV.
There was no quelling DEEP FLAME 🔥 ($2.80) in the 7th at @ChurchillDowns. The @JuddmonteFarms colt easily put away a nice field under @iradortiz. @bradcoxracing trains the three-year-old by @spendthriftfarm's Into Mischief. pic.twitter.com/m2GkhLtwGP
