Hello Youmzain's Dostoievsky Takes The Texanita

Further advertising the prowess of his sire Hello Youmzain at Chantilly on Tuesday, Dostoievsky swooped to conquer in the six-furlong G3 Prix Texanita.

Successful in the seven-furlong Listed Prix Saraca here in October, Alain Jathiere's homebred who is part-owned by his breeder, Gousserie Racing and Gerard Augustin-Normand had flopped when last of 10 in Deauville's G3 Prix Djebel in April but was a different proposition here.

Drafting in behind the pace set by Samangan (Blue Point) with Christophe Soumillon keen to get cover, the Mauricio Delcher Sanchez-trained 9-1 shot was launched to pass that 3-5 favourite inside the final furlong and score by 3/4 of a length from Kailani (Goken). There was a further head margin back to Kimi Rey (Kingman) in third as Samangan faded to be another 1 1/4 lengths away in fourth.

“He was too keen last time, forgot to breathe throughout and just died in the end, but today he did as I wanted and won very comfortably,” Soumillon explained. Francis Graffard said of Samangan, “He did too much on the lead on deep ground–this ground doesn't suit him.”

Pedigree Notes
Dostoievsky's dam Vlatka (Dawn Approach) is a half-sister to Fastnet Rock's sire Fas who recorded his career-defining success in the G3 Prix Sigy over this course and distance. Also kin to the G3 Prix Bertrand de Tarragon and Listed UAE 1,000 Guineas winner Silva (Kodiac), she hails from the family of the multiple Group 1-winning sprinter Sole Power (Kyllachy). Vlatka's yearling colt by Bay Bridge was a €92,000 purchase by Mandore International Agency at the Arqana December Breeding Stock Sale.
