Kentucky Derby hero Golden Tempo (Curlin) will stand at Lane's End Farm at the conclusion of his racing career, the farm announced Friday morning.
Hailing from an accomplished female line as a homebred for Phipps Stable and St. Elias Stables, the son of Curlin put himself on the Derby trail via Louisiana's point race series, including a win in the GIII Lecomte Stakes, and placings in the GII Risen Star and GII Louisiana Derby. He returned on the first Saturday in May to make history as not just his venerable sire's first Derby winner, but also that of trainer Cherie DeVaux–the first woman in history to win America's most-prized Spring Classic.
“We'd like to thank St. Elias Stable and Phipps Stable for entrusting Lane's End with Golden Tempo's stud career,” said Lane's End's Bill Farish. “Golden Tempo fits the classic profile that Lane's End has long been associated with, and his pedigree has such a deep foundation of Grade I winners and producers, in addition to being by a top sire.”
Golden Tempo is a fifth generation Phipps homebred, tracing back to foundation mare Blitey. His dam, Carrumba (Bernardini), was a graded winner and hit the board in several graded contests, including running third in the GI Ogden Phipps Stakes. Third dam Dancinginmydreams (Seeking the Gold) was the runner-up in the GI Matron Stakes, and went on to produce GISW Dancing Forever (Rahy) in addition to creating the branch that eventually yielded Golden Tempo. That mare is also a full-sister to champion 3-year-old filly MGISW Heavenly Prize, who herself went on to produce the likes of MGISW Good Reward (Storm Cat) and his full-brother GSW Pure Prize. Another full-sibling to Heavenly Prize is GISW Oh What a Windfall.
“Golden Tempo is the direct result of our family's generations of foundational breeding,” said co-breeder Daisy Phipps Pulito. “Partnering with St. Elias Stables culminated in a historic Kentucky Derby win, and that is gratifying on so many levels.”
