Jaber Abdullah's Timeforshowcasing (Showcasing) finished off the radar in Newmarket's G1 1000 Guineas when last seen, but rebounded in style to lead home French and Irish raiders for an international trifecta in Sunday's G2 Horn & Company 106th German 1000 Guineas at Dusseldorf.
“It was a great performance by the filly, Charlie [Johnston] and his team seemed very happy coming into the race and she kept it simple,” reflected rider Jack Mitchell. “It was straightforward, she had a nice pace to run at and she accelerated good. I felt the other horse coming and, when she sensed it, she just tried more and more. She was very tough, she quickens very well and she is a very honest filly.”
“This is a race we have some great history with as a family and my Dad [Mark] won it twice [with Nyaleti and Main Edition] a few years ago,” beamed trainer Charlie Johnston. “We thought for a while she was the perfect filly for the race and I'm delighted she has got the job done. Jack gave her a lovely ride and I don't think I could have scripted a better trip through the race. There was a moment's worry when the second challenged her a furlong out, but she's a very tough filly and kept pulling out more.”
The trainer did not commit to any specific targets and added, “She does have an entry in the [G1] Coronation [Stakes] at Royal Ascot and, now that she's won a Group 2, I think she'll have to roll the dice in a Group 1. Whether that will be at Ascot, or not, I'm not sure. She likes a little bit of ease in the ground, like she got today, and today was what mattered. We'll worry about the next run afterwards.”
April's Listed Burradon victrix went postward for the one-mile Classic as the 21-10 favourite and accepted a tow in second after the initial exchanges as the home team's Wintersonne (Too Darn Hot) set the pace up front.
Bustled along in the straight to gain an edge with 300 metres remaining, she came under a drive when Indifferente (Siyouni) threatened soon after and stayed on strongly to deny that Yann Barberot-conditioned rival by 1 1/2 lengths, with 2 1/4 lengths back to Michael O'Callaghan trainee Sky Watch (Starman) in third.
