La Mexicana Delivers Dream Start for Peter O'Brien Bloodstock

Peter O'Brien could hardly have asked for a better launch pad for his new venture, with Group 3-winning mare La Mexicana topping the latest Inglis Digital Sale at A$920,000. The eight-year-old daughter of I Am Invincible was the first offering under the newly-formed Peter O'Brien Bloodstock banner and attracted strong interest before being secured by Blue Gum Farm and Suman Hedge (FBAA).

The result comes as O'Brien prepares to depart Segenhoe Stud following its recent acquisition by Yulong, bringing to a close a long and successful association with the Hunter Valley operation.

Offered on behalf of the Surace family, La Mexicana provided an ideal springboard for O'Brien's next chapter. The mare, carrying a pregnancy to leading sire Too Darn Hot, was one of the most sought-after lots of the sale.

“That is an outstanding result, incredible,” a delighted O'Brien said. “For me, the Surace family are very close friends and they wanted people to know I'm launching Peter O'Brien Bloodstock so they wanted to put La Mexicana through me as a springboard for my next chapter in life. So, I can't thank them enough for the opportunity.

“The mare is a very special mare. Her first three foals are all outstanding, with her current weanling the best she's had, and being offered in foal to a champion stallion, it was a great package.”
