Fahey Equals Wins Record

Richard Fahey | Racing Post

Richard Fahey equaled retired trainer Richard Hannon Sr.'s record of 235 winners in a calendar year thanks to a Lingfield double through Gabrial The Hero (War Front) and Luis Vaz De Torres (Ire) (Tagula {Ire}). Luis Vaz De Torres (5-1) secured that important landmark victory in the Daily Price Boosts At Unibet H. The 3-year-old was ridden by Tony Hamilton, who had chalked up 100 winners in a season for the first time when successful on Gabrial The Hero in the two-mile 32RedSport.com H. Always appearing to be traveling better than anything else, Gabrial The Hero (7-1) stormed into the lead in the straight when given his head, but was all out to hold the late challenge of Cotton Club (Ire) (Amadeus Wolf {GB}) by a neck.

Fahey commented, “It's grand. I can't believe it. It's a huge amount of winners, but I've got a good team behind me. Tony's reached 100 winners, so it's a good day for everybody. It would be great if we could beat the record. We'll be trying anyway.”

Fahey has three runners at Southwell Tuesday, as he goes in pursuit of the outright record.
