Heinz Weil, founder of successful German stud Gestut Etzean, passed away near the end of December, reported Galopponline.de. The Frankfurt, Germany native was 88. Weil founded Gestut Etzean in the Odenwald area of Germany in1969. As a breeder, Weil bred many top-level winners including G1 Preis der Diana heroines Night Magic (Ger) (Sholokhov {Ire}) and Feodora (Ger) (Lord Of England {Ger}). He also bred G2 Oppenheim Union-Rennen hero Lecroix (Ger) (Assert {Ire}), who also finished runner-up in the G1 Grosser Preis von Baden and G1 Aral Pokal. Weil also stood leading German sire Dashing Blade (GB) (Elegant Air {GB}) and currently stands his son Lord Of England (Ger), as well as Jukebox Jury (Ire) (Montjeu {Ire}) and Amaron (GB) (Shamardal).
