Discreetness (Discreet Cat), the good-looking winner of the Smarty Jones S. at Oaklawn Park Jan. 18, will be pointed for the next leg in the track's 3-year-old series, the $500,000 GIII Southwest S. Feb. 15. Trained by William 'Jinks' Fires, who also conditioned 2011 GI Arkansas Derby hero Archarcharch, Discreetness is owned by Texarkana resident Dwight Pruett's Xpress Thoroughbreds, making the colt the fourth Arkansas-owned horse to win the Smarty Jones in the last five runnings.

“It's hard to say,” Fires said, when asked to compare the colts. “But, I think Discreetness probably is close. They're a little bit different type horse. Discreetness is a longer-striding horse.”

A $67,000 Keeneland September yearling turned $105,000 OBS March 2-Year-Old purchase, Discreetness won two of his first three trips to the post, including an 8 1/2-length allowance victory at Churchill Downs Sept. 12. Fourth as the favorite in the Nov. 1 Street Sense S. behind Mo Tom (Uncle Mo) and Tom's Ready (More Than Ready), Discreetness annexed the Springboard Mile in the Remington slop Dec. 13 before successfully landing his sophomore debut Monday.
