Five Frankels Catalogued For Easter

The progeny of 173 stakes winners, and siblings to 43 Group 1 winners, are among the 580 yearlings catalogued for Inglis's Australian Easter Yearling Sale Apr. 5 to 7. The catalogue for the sale is now online.

“Years of meticulous planning and hard work by breeders and vendors will culminate in what promises to be an amazing week in Sydney this April,” said Inglis's Managing Director Mark Webster. “We are excited to offer 580 elite Thoroughbreds from the best families across the globe, and to again play host to our clients from around Australia and all parts of the world.”

The catalogue includes the progeny of Australia's leading sires like Fastnet Rock (Aus) (52), Sebring (Aus) (43), Snitzel (Aus) (30), Street Cry (Ire) (28) and Redoute's Choice (Aus) (24). Britain's unbeaten champion Frankel (GB) (Galileo {Ire}), whose first 2-year-olds hit tracks in Europe this year, has five yearlings bred on Southern Hemisphere-time catalogued.

The five Frankel yearlings catalogued include lot 417, a half-sister to G3 Albany S. and G3 Sceptre S. winner Kiyoshi (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}); lot 423, a colt who is the first foal out of Group 2 winner More Strawberries (Aus) (More Than Ready); and lot 237, a filly who is the first produce of South African Group 1 winner Chocolicious (SAf) (Kahal).

Pierro (Aus) and All Too Hard (Aus), the standout first-season sires at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale earlier this month, have 41 and 37 catalogued respectively. Four-time Group 1 winner All Too Hard topped this sale when he fetched A$1.025 million from Hawkes Racing in 2011. GI Kentucky Derby and G1 Dubai World Cup victor Animal Kingdom, whose first yearlings also made a strong impression at Magic Millions, averaging A$207,500, has seven catalogued.

The Easter sale is bookended by The Championships at Royal Randwick on the preceding and following weekends, and the horse that brought down the curtain at last year's festival was Criterion (NZ) (Sebring {Aus}), who won the meet's feature race, the A$4 million Queen Elizabeth S. That 5-year-old's half-brother by Pierro (lot 399) is catalogued for Easter, and other siblings to Group 1 winners set for sale include lot 312, a full-sister to Easter graduate Foxwedge (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}); lot 15, a Dalakhani (Ire) half-brother to Hong Kong star Able Friend (Aus) (Shamardal); lot 135, a Snitzel (Aus) half-brother to G1 Cox Plate victress Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}); lot 285, a full-brother to champion sprinter Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}); lot 260, a full-brother to last year's Australian Horse of the Year Dissident (Aus) (Sebring {Aus}); lot 249, a colt from the last crop of Street Cry (Ire) who is a half-brother to Fawkner (Aus) (Reset {Aus}); and lot 359, a Street Cry half-sister to last year's G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Press Statement (Aus) (Hinchinbrook {Aus}).

“The Australian sales season has started well as expected, noting the lure of a weak Australian dollar which provides opportunities for international investors but also provides incentive for domestic investors to buy from home rather than importing from overseas, where they will pay a premium when factoring in currency exchange rates,” Webster said. “This is the year to invest in Australian bloodstock, even more importantly to invest in Thoroughbreds that have the potential to perform well beyond their 2-year-old campaigns; Thoroughbreds that have scope on the racetrack and in the breeding barn such as recent Easter graduates All Too Hard, Deep Field and Wandjina. This is the one sale around the globe in 2016 that serious racing investors and enthusiasts don't want to miss.”
