Trappe Shot Colt On Top at OBS

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company held the second and final day of its Winter Mixed Sale Thursday with an open session followed by horses of racing age.

A total of 165 head changed hands during the open mixed session for a combined $1,197,300. The average was $7,256, representing a 5.6% drop from last year's corresponding figure. The median stayed in line with 2015's mark of $4,000. Wednesday's preferred session featured a sharp rise in RNAs, and it was the same for Thursday's open session–31.8% of horses failed to meet their reserves, compared to 16% in 2015. Significantly more horses were catalogued for both mixed sessions this year compared to last, however, with 70 additional offerings going through the ring during Thursday's open session.

The horses of racing age section saw 61 horses sell for $987,700, for an average of $16,192–down 6.8% year over year. The median rose from $7,500 12 months ago to $10,000. The RNA rate was 16.4% compared to 15.5% last term.

Topping all of Thursday's transactions was One More Shot (Trappe Shot) (hip 593), a 3-year-old colt who was scooped up by Jagger, Inc. for $145,000 during the horses of racing age portion of the sale. He was consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, Agent III. The chestnut, who Brennan acquired for $100,000 at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale with the intention of reselling him as a juvenile, was an impressive eight-length winner of his only start at Tampa Dec. 23 for Brennan and trainer Jamie Ness (click here for more). He hails from the family of Grade I-winning juvenile Wickedly Perfect (Congrats).

The top lot during Thursday's open session was a Scat Daddy short yearling acquired by W.D. North TB's LLC & Morris Bloodstock, agent for $105,000. Catalogued as hip 234, the daughter of GSP Perennial Song (Songandaprayer) was consigned by Summerfield (Francis & Barbara Vanlangendonck), Agent XLIV. She hails from the family of 2014 Grade I winner Condo Commando (Tiz Wonderful).
