Clipthecouponannie provided her successful young sire with an eighth black-type winner with a never-say-die victory at Aqueduct. Drawn on the rail in a scratched-down field of four, the bay looked to bobble slightly at the off, but was quickly battling on a good pace just to the inside of fellow undefeated Wonderment as Frosty Margarita was only too happy to allow things to proceed ahead of her. Clipthecouponannie won the pace battle as Wonderment dropped away, but Frosty Margarita loomed up three deep with every chance at the head of the lane. The duo matched strides deep into the final furlong, but Clipthecouponannie determinedly clawed her way past Frosty Margarita in the dying strides to score. Winning owner Mike Repole told NYRA's Richard Migliore post-race that the winner would likely be pointed for the nine-furlong GII Gazelle S. Apr. 9. A debut winner over 5 1/2 furlongs here Dec. 20, a race from which the next three home all graduated in their subsequent appearances, Clipthecouponannie was a dime on the dollar when reporting home a clear five-length winner of a course-and-distance allowance Jan. 28. Her three-time stakes winning dam has a juvenile colt by Repole's GI Cigar Mile hero Stay Thirsty and a yearling colt by fellow Repole colorbearer Overanalyze. She is currently back in foal to Uncle Mo. Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
