Second-favourite Cool Cowboy bounced out of the gate and was never headed when landing the G3 Burj Nahaar by 3 3/4 lengths under Pat Dobbs. The one-time sprinter saw out every yard of the dirt mile and was hustled on the home turn by market leader Le Bernardin, who has been in cracking form in Dubai this winter but cried enough as Cool Cowboy found another gear in the straight to power clear of his rivals within the final furlong. German raider Ross tracked the leading pair early on and got the better of Le Bernardin close home to take second by half a length.
Formerly campaigned in the U.S. by trainer Dale Bennett, for whom he won Mountaineer Park's Sophomore Sprint Championship S. in 2014, Cool Cowboy made his carnival debut for trainer Doug Watson on this card last year in the G3 Mahab Al Shimaal, where he was fourth. He finished sixth, beaten five lengths, in the G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen to close out that short campaign and was seventh behind yesterday's Mahab Al Shimaal scorer Muarrab (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) on return going six furlongs over this track Dec. 17. Second to former Dubai Golden Shaheen scorer Reynaldothewizard (Speightstown) in the Listed Dubawi S. Jan. 14, he stepped up to seven furlongs to take a handicap Jan. 28 and was second again in handicap company over this track and trip Feb. 28. Cool Cowboy was wrapping up a productive week for Watson and jockey Pat Dobbs, who also combined to take the G3 UAE Oaks with the unbeaten 'TDN Rising Star' Polar River (Congrats) on Thursday.
Cool Cowboy's dam, Grand Breeze, has a 2-year-old Dialed In colt named Golden Hero, as well as a yearling filly by Into Mischief. She is due to foal to Midnight Lute this year.
