Olorda led them every step of the way to gamely fend off her heavily favored stablemate and key a one-two-three finish for trainer Chad Brown.

Heroine of the G3 Prix Vanteaux at Longchamp last May for owner Peter Harald Sander and trainer Michael Figge, she was third behind subsequent GI Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf third Queen's Jewel (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) in the G1 Pour Moi Coolmore Prix Saint Alary three weeks laster while carrying owner Martin Schwartz's orange silks for the first time following a private purchase.

She failed to land a blow when 11th behind the brilliant Lady Eli (Divine Park) in the GI Belmont Oaks Invitational July 4, her final start for Figge. Subsequently transferred to Brown, Olorda ran a decent fourth after getting bumped at the start in Keeneland's GI Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Oct. 10, then capped her sophomore campaign with an eventful 12th-place finish in Del Mar's GI Matriarch S. Nov. 29.

Taking the blinkers off for this one, Olorda quickly cleared the field from her outside draw. With Julien Leparoux in the irons, she led through testing early fractions of :22.98 and :47.10 while racing well within herself. She kicked for home with a clear advantage and kept on finding more in the stretch to narrowly fend off the heavy favorite in dramatic fashion.

“There was another speed horse, the only one in the race that could go to the lead, and if that horse was going we could have sat second, but my filly broke very good and she was doing it very comfortably,” Leparoux said. “She's a big filly, a grinder, so she never raised up. I was trying to win the race, that's it. I just saw in the last part of it that it was [Dacita], but I didn't know who was coming. I just felt like my filly didn't stop and the other one I could feel they were running faster at the end. She was just doing it easy. I knew I was going pretty good, but she is kind of just one-paced and she just kept going.”

Brown assistant George Abreu added, “You can't get better than that. They have all been training very well.”

Schwartz, of course, has enjoyed a long run of success with his European acquisitions in the States, including GISWs Alterite (Fr) (Literato {Fr}); Angara (GB) (Alzao); Gorella (Fr) (Grape Tree Road {GB}); Samitar (GB) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}); Stacelita (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}); and Zagora (Fr) (Green Tune).
