Sidelined after her debut defeat of the subsequently group-placed Chartreuse (Ire) (Lawman {Fr}) over this trip on the Polytrack at Deauville in August, Okana made up for lost time to suggest she could be a player in the upcoming mile Classics. Keen early anchored behind the leading quartet, the bay was cajoled through to challenge halfway up the straight and finally mastered Manasarova with 100 meters left before asserting for a clear-cut win. “I couldn't run her again last year after Deauville, as she had a setback but she was doing well leading up to this,” trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias commented. “I thought she'd need the run, but she had a dream trip up the inside and that probably helped. There is room for improvement, but I don't know yet where she will go as I have other nice fillies.” The dam, who is a half-sister to the high-achieving sire Green Tune and the champion Pas de Reponse (Danzig), also has a 2-year-old filly by Oasis Dream (GB) named Grande Bleue (Ire).
