The GIII Thunder Road S., contested for older horses at one mile on turf, will be held as part of a blockbuster card on GI Santa Anita Derby Day Apr. 9, it was announced.
Originally scheduled for Friday Apr. 8, the Thunder Road has been moved back a day following consultation with all nominees and local horsemen.
“After consulting with the connections of all of those horses nominated and with the TOC [Thoroughbred Owners of California], we have all agreed that the Thunder Road will now be an important part of what we hope is a tremendous day here on Saturday,” said Rick Hammerle, Santa Anita Vice President, Racing and Racing Secretary.
In addition to the $1-million Santa Anita Derby, the Thunder Road will now join the GI Santa Anita Oaks, GIII Providencia S. and a pair of Cal-bred stakes.
