'Glimpse' Goes for Fifth Straight

By

Catch a Glimpse (City Zip), named Canadian Horse of the Year at last Friday evening's Sovereign Awards, returns to the site of her biggest triumph Thursday in Keeneland's GIII Appalachian S., presented by the Japan Racing Association. Off the board in a rained-off sprint at Saratoga last July, the $75,000 KEESEP yearling took to the turf to annex a Woodbine allowance Aug. 22 before romping by five lengths over two next-out stakes winners in Woodbine's GII Natalma S. Sept. 12. The chestnut proved best in the GI Breeder's Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf over yielding course and distance Oct. 30, and picked up right where he left off in the GIII Herecomesthebride S. at Gulfstream Feb. 27. Dothraki Queen (Pure Prize) returns to the turf for the first time since a seven-length debut romp at Ellis last July. The Ken McPeek trainee went on to annex the GII Pocahantas S. at Churchill in September, and finished second in the GI Darley Alcibiades S. over the main track here Oct. 2. She was third in the GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies back in Lexington 29 days later, and checked in fourth–later promoted to third after the show horse was disqualified from purse money–in Churchill's sloppy track GII Golden Rod S. Nov. 28. Dothraki Queen could use this as a springboard to the G1 1000 Guineas and/or G1 Investec Oaks in England. Baciami Piccola (GB) (Equiano {Fr}), stakes-placed sprinting in Italy and France last term, belied 14-1 odds in her North American debut Mar. 12, annexing Tampa's GIII Florida Oaks Mar. 12 for Amerman Racing Stables and Brian Lynch. Princess Princess (Discreet Cat) was fourth that day, beaten 1 1/4 lengths, while stakes winner Ava's Kitten (Kitten's Joy) was fifth as the favorite by another neck.
