Cornerstone Stud in South Australia will be the southern hemisphere base for the Irish National Stud's recent signing Free Eagle (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}).
The winner of last year's G1 Prince of Wales's S. at Royal Ascot for his owner-breeder Moyglare Stud, the 5-year-old struck on debut at two over a mile and also collected the G3 KPMG Enterprise S. at Leopardstown in his eight-race career under the guidance of Dermot Weld.
“As a son of High Chaparral, widely considered to be one of the most successful European stallions to have shuttled to New Zealand and Australia for some years, we are tremendously excited to be announcing the addition of Free Eagle to our stallion roster,” said Cornerstone Stud Managing Director Sam Hayes. “He was one of those horses that walks out of his box and immediately takes your eye. Types are what sell at the yearling sales and physically Free Eagle has that 'wow' factor. We believe in the sire line and the way in which he accelerated away from world-class horses at Leopardstown and Royal Ascot makes him something special.”
The fee for Free Eagle in his first season will be A$18,700 (inc. GST). Cornerstone Stud has also recently been the southern base for the Aga Khan Studs stallion Dalakhani (Ire) (Darshaan {GB}), who earlier this week was ruled out of the remainder of the European covering season with an unspecified veterinary issue.
