Gemologist Colt Shoots to the Head of the Class

A Florida-bred colt from the first crop of Gemologist (Tiznow) became the new sales topper at the OBS April Sale late Wednesday afternoon after attracting a final bid of $550,000 from the team of bloodstock agent David Ingordo and California trainer Peter Eurton. The Feb. 8 foal was consigned to the sale by Becky Thomas's Sequel Bloodstock and was making its third trip under the hammer. A $50,000 purchase as a weanling out of the 2014 Keeneland November Sale, the gray colt was bought back on a bid of $60,000 at Keeneland September last fall. Bred by Rick Sutherland, hip 564 is closely related to OBS Championship S. winner Here's Johnny, a son of Colonel John and is also kin to SW Glitter City (City Place) and to Wild Forest Cat (D'wildcat), the dam of GSW Toews On Ice (Archarcharch). Hip 564 breezed an eighth of a mile in :10 flat at last week's under-tack preview.
