Held at its Germiston Sales complex, Bloodstock South Africa's three-day National Yearling Sale, with 453 lots catalogued, kicks off at 3pm when the first of day one's 151 lots will enter the ring. The Sale is celebrating is 40th anniversary and from champion and US-sire Bold Tropic (SAf), sold at the inaugural Germiston sale in 1977, to Futura (SAf), the 2015 Horse of the Year, the sale has consistently produced champions.

Champion sire Dynasty (SAf) (Fort Wood), who sired the 2014 and 2015 Horse of The Year recipients, Legislate (SAf) and Futura, respectively, has two outstanding yearlings on offer in Lot 33 and 96. Lot 33, consigned by Cheveley Stud is none other than a full sister to Legislate and on paddock value alone, she should be one to look out for. Consigned by Mauritzfontein Stud, Lot 96, the aptly named Big Parade (SAf), is a stunning Dynasty colt out of the G1 Summer Cup winner Flirtation (SAf) (Silvano {Ger}). A Tiger Ridge half-brother to lot 96 named Ordinary Love (SAf) fetched R800,000 from Shadwell South Africa at last year's sale.

Var is another sire that just keeps on churning out Group winners and Lot 53, consigned by Varsfontein Stud and Lot 230, consigned by Cheveley Stud are likely to be among the top lots. Out of the multiple group-winning Western Winter mare Covenant (SAf), Lot 53, a colt named Varallo (SAf), oozes quality. While Lot 230, a colt out of star broodmare Mystic Spring (Ire) (Royal Academy), is a half brother to five Group-winning horses including Equus Champion 3-Year-Old Rabiya (SAf).

Champion sire Silvano has 23 yearlings on offer and Mauritzfontein Stud consigns two quality colts in Lot 184, Earl of Warwick (SAf), out of Lady Brooke (SAf) (Fort Wood); and Lot 226, Diamondveld (SAf), out of Mrs Brock (SAf) (Fort Wood). Other standouts include Lot 15, a Lope De Vega (Ire) colt out of the Cat Thief mare Bootsey, Lot 24; a Pathfork (Distorted Humor) colt out of Capitol Steps (SAf) (National Assembly ); and Lot 224, a full-brother to multiple Group 1 winner Inara (SAf) (Trippi) and a half-brother to Madeira Mist (Ire) (Grand Lodge), the dam of the globetrotting Joshua Tree (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

Another offering certain to intrigue is Lot 258, a colt by  the sensational Tapit out of Pin Turn (GB) (Pivotal {GB}). Named Wheel of Time (SAf), the chestnut colt was bred by and is also consigned by Drakenstein Stud and is out of a daughter of G1 Dubai Duty Free S. and G1 Durban July S. winner , the Equus and Spey Bridge Champion Ipi Tombe (Zim) (Manshood {GB}).
