Strong Trade Continues At Inglis

Session-topping Vergara | Inglis

The Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale posted another strong session Tuesday when the third day of its four-day sale wrapped up in Sydney. A total of 366 horses have now been traded for A$22,049,550, compared to 279 sold for A$13,117,175 up to this point last year. The average and median remain well above last year's figures at A$60,245 (+26.8%) and A$26,000 (+52.9%), respectively, and the clearance rate is 88% with one day of trade remaining.

Top billing for the day went to Group 3 winner Vergara (Aus) (Snippetson {Aus}) (lot 550), who was picked up by Paul Guy of Heritage Bloodstock on behalf of the Victorian-based Blue Gum Farm. Guy outbid Rob Roulston, bidding for Rifa Mustang, for the 5-year-old, who won the G3 Epona S. at Rosehill in March and was fourth behind Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) in the G1 Doncaster H. Apr. 2. Vergara, who was sold by owner/trainer Anthony Cummings's Princes Farm, will have a Brisbane winter campaign before being bred, according to Guy.

“She does well first-up so we're looking forward to seeing some results,” said Guy. “We're excited to get her; she's out of a half-sister to Blue Gum's sire Turffontein so we have a lot of respect for the family.”

Victorian buyers have accounted for 11 of the top 15 lots, and over 120 mares in total over the last two days.

“Blue Gum were the leading vendor at Melbourne Premier this year and we are delighted to see the confidence they and other Victorian breeders, including Yu Long investments, Sun Stud, Three Bridges Thoroughbreds, Musk Creek Farm, Rushton Park, Burnewang North Pastoral and Spendthrift Australia have in the future of their state's breeding industry,” said Inglis National Bloodstock Director Jonathan D'Arcy. “They have invested in some high-quality mares over the past two days.”

Another black-type winner, There's Only One (Aus) (Testa Rossa {Aus}) (lot 578), brought the second-highest price of the day when hammered down to another Victorian operation, Sun Stud, for A$300,000. The G3 Bellmaine S. winner is carrying her third foal, by Exceed and Excel (Aus), and has a yearling colt by All Too Hard and a filly foal by Fastnet Rock (Aus). She was consigned by Rothwell Park Thoroughbreds.

New Zealand-based Ric Wylie Bloodstock and E & E Bloodstock went to A$280,000 to secure Aliberani (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) (lot 625) carrying her second foal, a member of the first crop of Australian Horse of the Year Dissident (Aus). The 7-year-old, consigned by Torryburn Stud, is a half-sister to four stakes winners, including the Group 1 placegetters Rose O'War (Aus) (Danehill); Mr. Vitality (Aus) (Snippets {Aus}); Danehill Express (Aus) (Danehill).

The Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale concludes Wednesday with a final broodmare session.

The catalogue for Inglis's single-session Autumn Thoroughbred Sale, which takes place Friday alongside the Classic Yearling Sale Book 2, was also posted online Wednesday. A total of 102 yearlings, 11 broodmares and 30 racing stock will be offered between the two sales.
