MEHMAS (IRE) (c, 2, Acclamation {GB}–Lucina {GB}, by Machiavellian), who bagged a five-furlong Chester maiden on debut last time May 5, was steadied in a handy sixth after a smart break upped one panel in this return. Nudged closer at the quarter-mile marker, the 3-1 chance was pushed along to challenge entering the final eighth and surged clear impressively to score by 3 1/4 lengths from Global Applause (GB) (Mayson {GB}). “He was very impressive and, if ours win first time out, generally they're pretty good as they improve quite a bit for the run,” commented trainer Richard Hannon. “I'd say he goes for the [June 14 G2] Coventry [S. at Royal Ascot] now. I was really impressed with the way he travelled and I've only done a couple of bits of work with him. He's a nice moving horse and has a lovely attitude. He's got the lot and gone clear of a good field.” Out of a half-sister to GSW & MG1SP Blue Monday (GB) (Darshaan {GB}), the dam also hails from the family of dual G1 Coronation Cup hero Warrsan (Ire) and dual Classic winner Avenir Certain (Fr).
