Oaks Trial Goes To Thewayyouare Filly

We Are Ninety | Racing Post

We Are Ninety was not one of the talked-about Oaks prospects lining up for this prep, but she became the latest Hugo Palmer representative to beat some members of more illustrious stables and earn a ticket to some of the summer's main events. Impressive when successful by four lengths in a mile handicap on Chelmsford's Polytrack Apr. 25, the bay was only third three days later over the same course and distance before earning a short break. Settled in fifth early, the bay was wound up in behind the leaders in the straight and when the gap appeared she was through and past Beautiful Morning with just under a furlong remaining. Holding that rallying rival in the run to the line, the winner who has a 2-year-old half-sister by Canford Cliffs (Ire) named Whatelseaboutyou (Ire) was reaping more glory on her goldmine pedigree. It features the G1 Fillies' Mile heroine Listen (Ire) (Sadler's Wells) and the G1 Moyglare Stud S.-winning highweight Sequoyah (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), dam of Henrythenavigator and the G1 Irish 1000 Guineas and G1 Prix de Diane Hermes (French Oaks) third Queen Cleopatra (Ire) (Kingmambo). Brigids Cross is also closely related to the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas and GI Breeders' Cup Turf hero Magician (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and the recent Listed Prix Caravelle winner Apple Betty (Ire).”She's a really tough filly. To have three runs in 22 days is not easy for any horse, particularly when it's the second, third and fourth run of their life,” trainer Hugo Palmer commented. “I've always liked her and I felt her work with Hawksmoor (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}) at home put her right on the premises of the favourite and that's what gave us the heart to have a go today. Jim Crowley said she will stay further and we'll look to the [G2] Ribblesdale S. [at Royal Ascot June 16] now, as there's a nice gap. She's a very raw filly and is almost a mirror image of Covert Love (Ire) (Azamour {Ire}) with her white face and her white socks. The ground was a bit soft for her today and I could see her changing her legs round the top bend. I would have thought if she's going to be supplemented for an Oaks, it could be the [G1] Irish Oaks [at The Curragh July 16], as she was born and bred there.” Click for the Racing Post result.
