European-Bred Success with Tom Morley

Tom Morley

Hometown?: Born in London, raised in small village of Westerdale in North Yorkshire.

How did you end up where you are now?: I initially came to work for Eddie Kenneally for a couple of years after being with Jeremy Noseda for four years. I planned to go back to England and train but after being here for six months my mind started to change and my love for racing and life here grew.

What have you found to be the major difference between racing/breeding in America and your home country?: Wow! Where to start. Surfaces, direction, training methods, climate, day to day race programs are the fundamental differences for the horse and conditioner to adjust to. But we are so terribly disjointed in the US about the governing of our industry, and I do believe we are trying hard to come together, clean up and push forward in the correct direction, but it needs someone to grab it and take the industry where it needs to go. I could go on forever on this question.

Name one home comfort you miss?: Theakston Black Sheep Ale.

Favourite sport or hobby outside of racing?: Sport, reading, traveling. Very unoriginal but I have a deep love for the African continent and am sport mad.

What would you say is your proudest accomplishment?: Managing to persuade Mrs Morley (New York Racing Association television personality/analyst Maggie Wolfendale) to marry me!!
