Undefeated “TDN Rising Star” CHIEF ISTAN (Istan) makes his highly anticipated return to the races on the GI Preakness S. undercard for trainer Larry Jones. Owned by Sagamore Farm and breeder Brereton C. Jones, the bay was a dominant 7 1/2-length debut winner in a sharp :57.28 at his conditioner's Delaware Park base in September of 2014. Subsequently shelved, he returned to crush a Keeneland allowance field by 8 3/4 lengths 13 months ago, but exited that race with some bone bruising and has been recooping at his breeder's Airdrie Farm. Chief Istan, who is the 7-5 morning-line favorite here, returned to the worktab in February and displays a speedy series of drills since.
