Shamardal's Speedy Boarding Comes To the Fore In the Corrida

Enjoying notable success in the distinct Helena Springfield silks in France with Zee Zee Top (GB) (Zafonic) and her daughters Izzi Top (GB) (Pivotal {GB}) and Jazzi Top (GB) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}), Meon Valley Stud struck again here with another of its talented homebred fillies as Speedy Boarding registered a career-best success. Tried in the G1 Irish Oaks at The Curragh in July after winning the Listed Lord Weinstock Memorial S. over 10 furlongs at Newbury in June, the bay was not disgraced when fifth there before finishing runner-up in Yarmouth's Listed John Musker S. back over a mile and a quarter in September. In a further indication of trainer James Fanshawe's regard for her, she was pitched into the G1 QIPCO British Champion Fillies & Mares S. at Ascot in October but failed to live up to expectations when a well-beaten ninth. Denied an untroubled path when fourth in the G2 Middleton S. over an extended 10 furlongs at York on her comeback May 12, she became the second filly to boost that form in 24 hours after the third-placed Journey (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) captured Saturday's G3 Pinnacle S. Settled behind the leading trio early with the pace far from testing, she had first run on the 2014 winner Siljan's Saga who was trapped on the rail to her left at the top of the straight. In front with just over 300 metres remaining, Speedy Boarding gave generously for Frederik Tylicki and was always holding that rival in therun to the line, with the favourite Candarliya unable to find the necessary speed in third. “She is a very brave and nice filly and last year after the G1 Irish Oaks she had ringworm and didn't run well at the end of the season,” Fanshawe explained. “I liked her first race very much and obviously she had come on for that. I think she will stay further and her target is the [G1 QIPCO British Champion] Fillies & Mares S. [at Ascot Oct. 15], but the plan at this stage is to keep her over a mile and a quarter and go for something big in between.” Click for the Racing Post result or the free Equineline.com catalogue-style pedigree.
