Magic Millions Mare Sale Concludes

Book 2 of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale brought the four days of trade to a close by adding another A$185,250 to sale's total turnover of A$74,986,250, with 67 horses sold on the day from 87 offered at an average of A$2,765.

Leading the way was Lyndhurst Stud Farm's Joyful Moments (Aus) (Viking Ruler {Aus}), an unraced grand-daughter of dual Oaks winner Denise's Joy (Aus) (Seventh Hussar {Aus}) who was sold with a Sept. 22 cover to Better Than Ready (Aus). Alexia Fraser signed for the 9-year-old mare at A$21,000.

Another unraced mare, the 4-year-old Moriya (Aus), by Street Cry (Ire) out of a Danzig half-sister to French Champion sprinter King Charlemagne (Nureyev) and carrying to Zoffany (Ire), also found favour, selling for A$17,000 from the Emirates Park draft to Gunsynd Lodge.

With an overall top price of A$3.4 million for Listen Here (Aus), the dam of G1 Caulfield Guineas winner Shooting To Win (Aus), the sale's clearance rate for the 764 mares offered was 82%, with an overall average of A$119,786 and median of A$51,750.

The Magic Millions National Sale Series continues Tuesday and Wednesday with the National Yearling Sale, where 459 lots are catalogued, including siblings or close relations to Group 1 winners Good Project (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}), Harry's Son (Aus) (Haradasun {Aus}), Mentality (Aus) (Flying Spur {Aus}), Monaco Consul (NZ) (High Chaparral {Ire}), Response (Aus) (Charge Forward {Aus}) and Shamus Award (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}). Group 1 winner Pear Tart (Aus) (Dehere)'s first foal, a filly by Fastnet Rock (Aus) is catalogued as lot 1555, while the Bell View Park dispersal will offer a Redoute's Choice (Aus) colt who is the third foal out of the G1 New Zealand Thoroughbred Breeders' S. winner Barinka (NZ) (Shinko King {Ire}) (lot 1691). The majority of the yearlings catalogued are eligible to be nominated to the Magic Millions Race Series, and this sale therefore represents the last chance this year for buyers to secure a horse to compete on the Gold Coast's A$10-million raceday each January.
