HAWKSMOOR SWOOPS FOR CLASSIC GLORY
Coming to the fore when winning the G3 Prestige S. over seven furlongs at Goodwood in August, Hawksmoor was third in the G2 Rockfel S. over that trip at Newmarket the following month before finishing in the same position behind Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Fillies Mile at the latter venue in October. Returning to be third again behind Jemayel (Ire) (Lope de Vega {Ire}) in the G1 Prix Saint-Alary over 10 furlongs at Deauville last time May 16, she justified favouritism to provide Hugo Palmer with a second European Classic in a breakthrough season for the Newmarket-based trainer. In the perfect spot early tracking the leader against the rail, the bay was angled out to work her way to the front with a furlong remaining and gave extra as Shy Witch closed in. Hawksmoor's dam is a half to the GIII Appleton H. winner Millennium Dragon (Ire) (Mark of Esteem {GB}), as well as to the dam of the black type-winner Meeriss (Ire) (Dubai Destination). The third dam is the G3 Prix de Sandringham runner-up Bubbling Danseuse (Arctic Tern), who is also the granddam of the four-times graded-stakes scoring J'Ray (Distant View). This is also the family of the US turf champion and five-times Grade I-winning Kotashaan (Fr) (Darshaan {GB}). Bridal Dance also has an unnamed yearling colt by Canford Cliffs (Ire).
