'TDN Rising Star' Kareena ran a hole in the wind on a breezy Friday afternoon on Long Island, streaking away in the final eighth of a mile for a comprehensive success in her black-type debut in the Jersey Girl. Runner-up in the Mar. 6 Gulfstream maiden won by the now 3-for-3 Lightstream (Harlan's Holiday), Kareena was accorded Rising Star status off her latest, a smashing five-length graduation at Keeneland Apr. 16, a race from which no fewer than four horses returned to score in their respective next outings. Content to lay third while racing in the clear into the turn, Kareena cruised up to pacesetting Appealing Maggie (Successful Appeal) after a half in a scorching :43.55. She put that one away with a furlong to race and scampered clear, stopping the clock in 1:07.87, just 0.21 of a second slower than the track record of Artax set in 1999. “She's just an impressive filly,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. “She's got a great disposition. She's a very kind filly and she can really run, so it was a great; that was a serious race. We're hoping to do what we did with Cavorting last year. The post position that allowed her to sit off of [the early pace]; two of them inside of her [had speed]. If we had been inside, we might've had to go ahead and go but sitting outside, she could do that. It was beautiful.” Click for the Equibase.com chart or VIDEO, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
