Matron Target For Jet Setting

The G1 Matron S. on Irish Champions Weekend Sept. 10 will be the main autumn target for G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas winner Jet Setting (Ire) (Fast Company {Ire}), trainer Adrian Keatley told At The Races.

In winning the Irish 1000 Guineas, Jet Setting became the only filly this year to beat dual Classic winner Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), who further bolstered her credentials when winning the G1 Pretty Polly S. on the weekend. Jet Setting was bought by the China Horse Club for £1.3-million at the Goffs London Sale just weeks later, and Keatley revealed the filly was carrying a virus when she checked in a lacklustre sixth in the G1 Coronation S. at Royal Ascot.

“She obviously picked up a little bug traveling over to Ascot,” Keatley told At The Races. “Fillies that she'd previously beaten finished in front of her and when we brought her home she scoped wrong.”

“She was very sick and her bloods were wrong,” the conditioner added. “She's been on strong antibiotics since, but from yesterday she turned a corner and we are happy with her again. It wouldn't put me off traveling with her again; we'll give her a few easy weeks.”

Keatley said Jet Setting could take in the G3 Coolmore Stud Fairy Bridge S. over 7 1/2 furlongs at Tipperary Aug. 25.

“I've spoken to representatives of the owners and they are happy for me to let her take her time so we'll bring her back mid to late August,” he said. “There's a race at Tipperary, a Group 3 over 7 1/2 furlongs, that would be a prep run for the Matron.”

Looking beyond 2016, Keatley said, “Obviously I'd like to keep her in training, but that would be down to the owners.”
