Godolphin's Tryster (Ire) (Shamardal), a revelation at the Dubai carnival this winter where he won two of his three outings and placed third in the G1 Dubai Turf, has had the G1 Juddmonte International at York Aug. 17 pencilled in as a next start by trainer Charlie Appleby. The 5-year-old gelding, who had last year been stamped an all-weather specialist in Britain with wins in the G3 Winter Derby and Easter Classic, was fifth of six in the G1 Prince Of Wales's S. at Royal Ascot in his first outing since Dubai.
“He has come out of Ascot well and I was very pleased with the run given the conditions, as he saw it out well,” Appleby said. “We are not using this as an excuse, but I think he is a better horse on a left-handed track, so I imagine I won't be running him at Ascot or Sandown again.”
“We may now look at the Juddmonte for him,” he added. “I feel that he is better on a flatter track, while he wants quick ground. If he gets that he will be competitive at that level.”
