Sea the Stars's Endless Time Wins the Lancashire Oaks

Endless Time | Racing Post

This renewal was depleted by four withdrawals due to the heavy preceding rain, with the 3-year-olds Abingdon (Street Cry {Ire}) and Fireglow (GB) (Teofilo {Ire}) the most sorely missed of those, but in Endless Time the race was saved by a winner of real substance. Successful on four of the five occasions she raced last term, the bay beat the subsequent G1 St Leger and G1 QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares S. winner Simple Verse (Ire) (Duke of Marmalade {Ire}) in a handicap over this trip at Goodwood in May and rounded off her campaign with an impressive 4 1/2-length success in the Listed Bluebell S. again at this distance at Naas in October. Waited with in behind the steady early gallop set by TDN Rising Star Loving Things, she was shaken up to seize the lead passing the furlong marker and assert as Furia Cruzada worked her way into the race too late. “She'd been off a long time and that had to be a worry,” jockey James Doyle said. “She doesn't do a whole lot when she gets to the front, but it worked out perfectly.” Trainer Charlie Appleby added, “She was the same weight as when she won the Listed race at Naas well and we've trained her for a late summer-autumn campaign. She loves juice in the ground and the more rain they were getting up there, the happier I was going to be. We might be being a bit bold, but we are going to work backwards from the [Oct. 15 G1 QIPCO British Champions] Fillies' and Mares' S. at Ascot, that was always the plan. We hoped we'd win today, look at the [G1] Yorkshire Oaks [at York Aug. 18] and go on from there.” Mamonta is a half-sister to the G2 Prix de Royallieu winner Mouramara (Ire) (Kahyasi {Ire}), producer of the G1 Sydney Cup hero Mourayan (Ire) (Alhaarth {Ire}) and the G2 Goodwood Cup runner-up and G1 Melbourne Cup third Mourilyan (Ire) (Desert Prince (IRE)), as well as the dam of the G3 Prix Edmond Blanc scorer Skins Game (GB) (Diktat {GB}). Her extended family includes Masarika (Ire) (Thatch), winner of the G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches, and she has a 2-year-old full-sister to the winner named The Sky Is Blazing (Ire), a yearling colt by Shamardal and a colt foal by Dawn Approach (Ire).
