+LIBBY'S TAIL (f, 2, Tiz Wonderful–Christmas Lily {SW, $116,148}, by Marquetry), off as the 3-1 second choice in this debut, was jostled around a bit after the start and took back to run sixth in the early going under Irad Ortiz, Jr., four to five lengths off a :22.66 quarter-mile. Tipping out widest of all nearing the top of the lane, the dark bay found her best stride in the last furlong and came over the top to pass dueling Raging Town (Jersey Town) and 4-5 favorite Golden Mischief (Into Mischief) in the final sixteenth and pull away late for a 1 1/2-length victory in a sharp clocking. Raging Town held second over In It for the Gold (Speightstown), with the chalk fading to finish fourth. The winner sold for $375,000 at OBS April after breezing a furlong in :9 4/5 (video), the highest price paid for a Tiz Wonderful offspring this year. Her dam captured the Sam Houston Distaff S. and most recently produced a yearling colt by Into Mischief. Click here for TDN's note on Libby's Tail's purchase at OBS April.
