More Than Ready Colt Dominates the Rose Bowl

Off the mark on debut over this trip at Haydock May 27, Mokarris was nowhere near being competitive when 16th in the G2 Coventry S. at Royal Ascot June 14 but showed that was nowhere near his form with this smart effort to break through in black-type company. Held up early towards rear, the bay made smooth progress with Kodiline as a target and when given the command duly swept by that rival to lead approaching the furlong pole en route to an authoritative success. “I think the ground was against Mokarris at Ascot, as he's a pretty good mover and looked a good horse when he won at Haydock,” commented Shadwell's racing manager Angus Gold. “He worked like a nice horse last week and I haven't seen a two-year-old of ours win like he did at Haydock. It's nice to get him back on track and we'll think about the [G2] Gimcrack [S. at York Aug. 20] and [G1] Middle Park [S. at Newmarket Sept. 24].” Mokarris is the first foal out of the listed winner Limonar, who is a half-sister to last year's GI Shoemaker Mile S. winner Talco (Fr) (Pivotal {GB}). Also from the family of the G1 Irish 2000 Guineas-winning sire Bachelor Duke, she has a yearling colt by Kitten's Joy and a colt foal by Noble Mission (GB) to come.
