Roger Varian is full of confidence ahead of Saturday's G1 QIPCO King George VI and Queen Elizabeth S. at Ascot for which his Postponed (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}) is a warm favourite. The Sheikh Mohammed Obaid-owned 5-year-old is a perfect three from three for Varian and following his four-length defeat of 'TDN Rising Star' Found (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Investec Coronation Cup at Epsom in June, Saturday's mid-summer middle-distance showpiece has been the main target.
“I'm very confident he's training as well as he was going into Epsom,” Varian told The Racing Post. “In that respect we ought to be confident but no Group 1 is easy to win, even when you're the clear form pick. You can't afford to have an off day.”
Varian is aware he is in a fortunate position to have a horse of the calibre of Postponed and he is keen to maximize the opportunities training such a horse affords.
“After Ascot we'd like to drop him back to 10 1/2 furlongs for the [G1] Juddmonte International, which would be exciting,” added Varian. “The other two races we have spoken about are the Arc and the [GI] Breeders' Cup Turf. Sheikh Mohammed Obaid has also expressed a wish to target the [G1] Sheema Classic again so we should have another season with the horse.”
