Gun Runner (Candy Ride {Arg}), a leading candidate for Sunday's GI Haskell Invitational S. at Monmouth Park, arrived in Oceanport, New Jersey by van Tuesday morning from his summer base in Saratoga. “He looked like he shipped really well,” said Scott Blasi, assistant to trainer Steve Asmussen. “His energy is good. The plan is to tack walk him [Wednesday] to get him used to his surroundings. He will gallop over the track Thursday, Friday and Saturday and probably school in the paddock Friday.” Owned by Winchell Thoroughbreds, Three Chimneys Farm and Besilu Stables, Gun Runner took the GII Risen Star S. and GII Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds earlier this term before completing the trifecta behind fellow Haskell runner Nyquist (Uncle Mo) in the GI Kentucky Derby May 7. He returned to winning ways last time with a dominant 5 1/4-length score in the GIII Matt Winn S. June 18.
