Visiting Hong Kong jockey Matthew Chadwick got on the board Friday at Singapore's Kranji Racetrack, guiding Master Banger (Aus) (Kaphero {Aus}) to victory in Friday night's first race.
The 26-year-old settled the $28 (4.60-1) shot handy to the pace and just behind the leaders, got busy in the stretch and was along late for a four-length success (video).
“It's good to get my first win in Singapore,” Chadwick said. “The quality of rides I picked up was much better this week, and I was able to take full advantage of this one. Thanks to [trainer] Leslie Khoo for the ride. He did tell me to ride him further back, but the horse jumped fast and was more forward than I thought.
I just let him stride and he was quite comfortable where he was. I was waiting for as long as I could as I didn't want to go too early in the home straight. Today is my mum's birthday! So, happy birthday, mum, this is for you.”
Chadwick kicked off his Singapore stay with a second and a third from nine rides at Kranji last weekend.
