From 2009 to 2013, Godolphin used the G3 Sweet Solera S. as a successful staging post for their leading fillies, and they supply two in Saturday's German-Thoroughbred.com-sponsored renewal. Saeed bin Suroor's representative is the six-furlong course maiden winner Easy Victory (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}), who lived up to her name in that July 7 contest won in 2012 by the subsequent Sweet Solera and G1 Fillies Mile winner Certify (Elusive Quality). As a half-sister to Mount Nelson (GB) out of the G2 Sun Chariot S. heroine Independence (GB) (Selkirk), she is already a golden broodmare prospect but she could prove high-class on the track too.
Charlie Appleby supplies Grecian Light (Ire) (Shamardal), who also scored on debut here, this time in the seven-furlong maiden that has thrown up several smart types in its history July 15.
“She has come out of her last race well and the form of that has been boosted with [the third-placed] Blending (GB) (Medicean {GB}) winning at the track last week,” Appleby said. “Obviously this is a step up in class, but she is a filly that we feel showed enough on her first start to justify having a bash at this. Saeed's horse won impressively over six furlongs and will improve for the step up in trip, while Richard Hannon's horse [Nations Alexander] is the highest-rated, so it will be competitive enough.”
While the Godolphin pair lack in experience, that is not an issue for Cheveley Park Stud's On Her Toes (Ire) (Kodiac {GB}), who comes into this on the back of a trio of wins, in a six-furlong Windsor novice contest June 25; a Pontefract nursery also over that trip July 5; and the seven-furlong Listed Star S. at Sandown July 21.
“She was impressive at Sandown. She is a filly that is not the biggest, but is tough,” the stud's managing director Chris Richardson commented. “She is one we would like to push on with this season. The race looks tougher than last time, but William Haggas is happy with her so we go again to try and get some bold black-type. The quick ground was a concern last time, but she didn't seem to mind it at Sandown when she won. I think she will go on any ground.”
