The Classic season of Galileo Gold (GB) (Paco Boy {Ire}) could be further enhanced by a trip to Deauville with connections weighing up a crack at the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville a week today.
Hugo Palmer's stable star made a dazzling start to his season when winning the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket before finishing second to Awtaad (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}). Further top-flight success came his was at Royal Ascot when taking the G1 St James's Palace S. b a length and a quarter from G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains winner The Gurkha (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) but Aidan O'Brien's charge gained his revenge when the pair clashed in last week's G1 Qatar Sussex S.
Harry Herbert, racing manager Galileo Gold's owner Al Shaqab Racing, commented, “We are looking very closely at the Jacques le Marois but no decision has been made yet. It will very much be down to if Hugo Palmer and his team are happy with the horse.”
The G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. on QIPCO British Champions Day in mid-October has already been nominated as a long-term aim for Galileo Gold, but Herbert added, “It is a long time until the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes at the end of the day, so we are giving it every consideration.”
