Less than 24 hours after teaming up to acquire Monday night's session-topping colt by Pioneerof the Nile, Stonestreet and Coolmore combined their resources to land the first seven-figure horse of the sale, hip 140 from the Gainesway consignment. A May 14 foal, the gray colt is a son of the all-conquering Tapit and out of the winning mare Rote (Tiznow), making him a full brother to Grade II-placed Royal Obsession, herself a $1-million purchase by Regis Farms out of the 2014 Saratoga Sale. Both Royal Obsession and hip 140 were bred in Kentucky by Sheikh Abdullah Almaddah's Marbat, who acquired the siblings' dam, a half-sister to GISW Magnificent Song (Unbridled's Song), for $260,000 in foal to Distorted Humor at the 2011 Keeneland November Sale. Stonestreet also campaigns Royal Obsession, having purchased that filly for $1.15 million out of the Regis Dispersal at Keeneland November last fall.
