Highland Sky Pointing for Saranac

Highland Sky | A. Coglianese

Joyce Young and Gerald McManis' Highland Sky (Sky Mesa), most recently a neck second in the GI Belmont Derby, opted to skip the GI Secretariat S. at Arlington last Saturday and will instead point for the GIII Saranac S. at Saratoga Sept. 3.

“He usually runs wide but in the Belmont Derby he was wider than wide. It doesn't take much more than that to cost you a nose,” said trainer Barclay Tagg. “I was considering going to Chicago following that race, but he's been doing pretty good up here. He's already had a couple of really tough races so I'd prefer to just run him here where he's been training.”

If all goes well in the Saranac, Tagg is considering Belmont's GIII Hill Prince S. for his charge Oct. 8.
